Okay so there's a bit of a story behind this one, but hang in there:
Today, since it's the last workshop day of my Summer Youth program, the afternoon was really chill -- we got to do art projects. Upon entering an art classroom, we (about 20 of us) were told that we could use "whatever was in the room" to make an artistic pattern on a sheet of paper, and that a winner would be chosen. Almost everyone ran for the colored pencils and oil pastels, but I felt like doing something really different.
I took a Styrofoam tray and walked over to the hand sanitizer dispenser at the corner of the room. The hand sanitizer was, similar to the one I frequently use at the hospital I work at, a thick, white, almost shaving-cream-like consistency. So I proceeded to fill my tray with hand sanitizer. Yeah, I got a couple weird looks from people who noticed me, but I had a plan. So I took my purell-filled tray over to the table, smoothed it out, and then opened the drawer labeled "dyes, inks, and miscellaneous" and I found a few vials of food coloring. I brought them over and carefully scattered a few droplets strategically around my purell-tray. Then with the back of a paint brush, I swirled the food coloring in the purell into the pattern I was looking for (which is actually way harder then it sounds since this is kind of runny), which was a sort of eastern-dragon-slash-serpent-ish motif. Then I took a sheet of sketch paper, laid it over my purell-and-swirled-colors, pressed it down to get a good imprint, flipped it over, scraped off the hand sanitizer so that only the impression of the ink remained, and then waited for it to dry.
It came out looking like this:
So yeah, it was really fast and really fun to make and I ended up winning the thing so I figured I'd share it here. Not as impressive as some of the art you guys do (COUGH9tailzCOUGH) but I liked it a lot.
Note: If anyone doesn't see the dragon/serpent, the head is at the top left and the body coils diagonally across the page. Of the 23 people who saw it, like 4 or 5 couldn't tell what it was, so just in case I'm clarifying here.
