This is set 10 years after the Hatchet. It is written by me and non-canon.

Brian unlocks the door to his cabin. The key always sticks a little, but by now he knows the trick to opening it. He begins unloading all the supplies from his truck. He's just returned from Whitehorse with a month's supply of groceries and gear. Hattie, his fussy ginger-striped tabby, meows her disapproval at his day-long absence. He reaches down to pet her head and she stretches towards him, purring loudly.
After he finishes putting away his supplies and feeding Hattie, he makes himself a turkey sandwich and takes it, along with a steaming cup of strong black coffee, to the rough wood table. He eats the sandwich, relishing every bite, as he reads the newspaper. It's been three years since he's had this cabin and he's come to love his quiet life. He knows living alone in the remote town of Pleasant Camp, British Columbia is not the life most 23-year-olds would want, but for him it is perfect.
Brian knows it is quite an interesting road that brought him here. It all began with the plane crash. What started as a disaster ended up showing him his love for the woods. Thankfully, Gary Paulsen, a great writer and his co-author, helped him get his story on paper. Never in a million years would he have imagined that Hatchet would become a bestseller. With the profits from his book, Brian was able to buy this simple cabin.
After Brian finishes his lunch, he goes to his workshop in the backyard. He is nearly done crafting his latest bow for the wealthy business woman in Alaska. One more coat of varnish and he will be done. Brian feels lucky; he is a young man doing what he loves. With Hattie sleeping on his workbench nearby and surrounded by beautiful pieces of wood that will eventually become bows, Brian has found his place in the woods.
