Alexis Conzette
[DANK TRIPLE POSTING]
The sky began to turn red. Alexis dropped her bag down near a clear space and sat on a log to rest. Saber sat down beside her. He frowned and looked away. Lately merely looking at his master seemed to frustrate him to no end.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"Nothing." He got up and tended to some sticks, planning on starting a campfire. No usage of Durendal could replace a common lighter in this situation, though, and he found himself having a bit of trouble.
"Need some help? I still remember the Ember spell from when I was a kid." After a few more seconds of trying he finally gave up and sat down next to the miserable pile.
"...Alright, go ahead." She shot a tiny flame at it, and it erupted into a small but healthy blaze. He didn't look up, he instead stared at her work. He thought about how close they had become in only a manner of days, then he felt himself clenching his fist. In this bond he felt a strange sense of anger.
She looked at him, worried. "Are you sure you're alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"You can be honest with me, Saber."
"That's the problem, though!" He blurted out. She stared at him for a few seconds. He couldn't keep eye-contact with her. He stood up and turned away. "I'm... Alexis, I'm not fine. I've made a mistake that could seriously impair my judgement. As a knight, as a servant in general anything like this might prove disastrous."
"Tell me, Saber." She leaned forward.
"I've..." he turned back around to face her, ignoring his feverish longing to look away. "...I've fallen in love... with my master."
They stood there, in silence, while their campfire sometimes crackled. Alexis looked down at it. "Well, on a lighter note, over these past few days and nights I've developed a real reason to continue fighting this war." In the forest, while the sun set, the master and her servant sat motionless. He sighed, she held her arm. The confession was out, weak as it seemed, but between them there was a familiar sense of mutual understanding. There was no blushing, but only a lingering sense of awkwardness that soon was finally, completely gone.
"How... how are you feeling, Master?"
She smiled and began to chuckle. A burden was gone. "Honestly... I've never felt better in my life. Thank you, Saber."
The sun was gone. Night had fallen. There was another silence, this one very much different from the rest. They both looked up at the stars, observing each passing light.
