Outside, the heat of the planet’s dying sun has grown so great that to step outside for more than a few hours is a death sentence. Humanity now lives in massive metal Domes connected by underground tunnels. Solar panels lie on top of the Domes to collect energy that is used to grow food. Hunters wearing protective equipment are sent outside to forage for food and necessary materials. Each Dome essentially has its own government – while several Domes may be united under one central authority, the governor of each Dome has almost total power.
It is obvious that humanity cannot last long. Scientists have decided that their last hope is to modify the human body, in order to let it withstand the harsh temperatures outside for longer periods than protective equipment allows. The modifications are also their best chance of allowing humanity to survive in space or on other planets, which they will have to do when their star finally engulfs their planet.
This body and mind modification technology, while far from perfected, has advanced far enough that prototype versions are available to the general public. These prototypes are immensely popular: in fact, it is almost considered a tradition to get a modification procedure when one becomes an adult. Those who have undergone such a procedure, known as a “Mod,” are referred to as “Modded.”
However, Mods come at a cost. Scientists have not yet perfected the procedure, and reports of numbness or tingling in the affected area are common. More importantly, for every attribute a procedure adds, it makes the Modded person lose one of their natural abilities as a human. To prevent this effect from adding up, each person is allowed only one Mod, barring exceptional cases.
Be aware that there are some who dispute this rule, and for the sake of humanity, push for Mods to be made less restricted, or even mandatory. One terrorist group, the Corpus Noir, has taken this philosophy to new extremes: the Noir kidnap people, force them to undergo extreme or multiple Mods, and then either indoctrinate them or release them back into society to display their handiwork. Some political groups sympathize with the goals if not the practices of the Noir, and are pushing for ethical boundaries to be bypassed in favor of humanity’s survival.
The Noir have gained particular prevalence in the Dome of Vreme, and are viewed by the government as a serious threat to society. To deal with them, a government counter-terrorism group called the Watchers has been created, which fights against what they perceive as a major threat to society. But what could be worse than humanity’s gradual extinction as the sun dries their planet to the bone?

RULES:
1) Listen to admins and mods, as usual. Nitrox is the GM.
2) You may make no more than 3 characters without permission.
3) The GM reserves the right to request changes to your character, particularly his or her Mods in order to ensure balance.
4) Your first character must be Modded, and you can only have one non-Modded character.
5) Be logical, don’t be overpowered, and don’t bunny characters without permission.
Put careful consideration into the effects and drawbacks of your Mods: try to make them as logical as possible. The drawback should be connected to the Mod, and the drawback should be something that would reasonably affect the character negatively in the CST. The technology is not complete yet, and so really powerful or complicated Mods are unlikely. Expect Corpus Noir members to have more powerful Mods and more debilitating drawbacks. Here are examples of acceptable and non-acceptable mods (feel free to use the acceptable ones):
BAD: Leg Mod allowing for faster running speed at the cost of the sense of taste.
GOOD: Leg Mod allowing for faster running speed at the cost of coordination.
(Sense of taste is unrelated to the legs, and is unlikely to change the course of the story.)
BAD: Brain Mod that makes mental processes to run at the speed of a supercomputer, allowing for near-instant calculations, amazing observation and memory, and the ability to quickly analyze the situation and the best course of action, at the cost of emotions.
GOOD: Brain Mod allowing for memories to be stored to a permanent but limited mental hard drive at the cost of some memory outside the hard drive, so it would be harder to recognize faces, places, abstract concepts
(Supercomputer mind is too far-reaching and OP even for a Corpus Noir member.)
The setting of Alter is more dystopian, and there is likely a higher amount of violence on the streets; still, blatantly offensive Mods (like a rocket launcher instead of an arm) are likely to be held only by Corpus Noir members, or by hunters who go outside the Dome regularly. Technology besides Mods is about at the same level as the present day, except that the Internet does not exist, non-biological dense information storage is difficult (so personal computers are rare), and the space program, while still in relative infancy, is focusing more on finding habitable planets than setting up satellites and the like.
It’s OK if you don’t get this on the first try, but let the GM change things if necessary.

Upon reaching thirty years of age, he and his companions founded The Sewer Ewer, and underground pub named aptly due to its close proximately the sewerage system. Here, the most vile of filth is collected and many of the contemptible entities reside here if not in one of the various other criminal sectors. The Rat has some friends in high places, namely in the governor's cabinet. They plant false information and keep the Watcher's off their heels. Watcher's and Corpus Noir members alike come to The Rat seeking information and for a price they can deal in the most lucrative trade: knowledge.
The Sewer Ewer has various facilities and shops. Some of the more prominent ones include a human trafficking center which can be located by traversing deep into the network. There they deal in slaves, forced marriages, organs, human cuisine, corpses, and mod transplants. There also exists multiple gambling centers with one of the more popular ones allowing you to bet mods are mod components.
More normal establishments such as "massage parlors, banks, pharmacies, and the Ewer guard building" exist in the system as well. In short, it is the city withing the city, home to only the dregs of society.
Near the "surface" of the operation exists a mod workshop, displaying basic illegal mods, or mods that are more compatible with children. Under the surface lies on of the cities largest mod laboratories, all 100% illegal and highly volatile. They have also developed what they call, "External Mods". These devices function similarly to normal mods but have minimum number of drawbacks. Although dubbed "External Mods", they are simply tools (often weaponry and clothing) with either very short bursts of output or sustained periods of minimal output.

Using her position as both head of a food company and as one of the primary food testers, she is able to eat to her heart's content. She is quite a glutton, more so because her mod forces her to be one. Nonetheless, she enjoys the time she gets to spend eating very much.... if not a bit too much. Part of her mod was specifically tailored for her to be eat others of her kind, a wondrous rush that brings her the most joy of all.
She maintains a slim figure and a body fat percentage of 13% through her mod and generally maintains a weight of around 80kg. She has various contacts in the Sewer Ewer to procure some of her goods and is connected to her company's own hunter group.

Lute is one of the poster children used as the Ewer's walking billboards. This group of kids directly apprentice under the instruction of the Rat and his companions, each learning to potentially succeed them in their trade. On the side of legal documentation, all of them are considered adopted children by a certain Mister Dirth Haze. As his nickname suggests, his current job mostly revolves being the resident errand boy, delivering packages left and right. In doing so, he is fostering his own speechcraft ability, something essential in most forms of business. he is grateful for the opportunity as it solves his monetary issues and gives him some extra crach which he uses to send back to the orphanage which raised him.
As someone simply wishing to survive in the grim existence of life, Lute has come to accept the fact that the Black Market is essential to the city's well being. He is not found of the human trafficking business but he knows that he can do nothing about it. As they all say, "You can't outrat The Rat." He's received a pledge that no one from his particular orphanage will be targeted by The Rat himself, a man whose words carry weight in the part of the world he resides in.

Clothing - Standard issue heat, cold, and radiation resistance layering for when a delivery to the buffer zone or the outside is required.
Amp Bracers - For brief periods of time, the bracelets contract upon his arm muscles, forcing them to strain themselves for small bursts of extra strength
Carry Weight Gauntlets - Similar to the amp bracers although these cause no strain upon his arm. He has to pay for recharges and is only used when making deliveries.
Motorrad - A type of weak, powered bike. Doesn't pay for the fuel too often so he ends up cycling for the majority of the time
Syringes - Emergency use only. Filled with various experimental concoctions that supply mod like regeneration power, paralysis poison, adrenaline boost, or physical steroid. Has similar detrimental effects to the body as over using a mod.

Mod Bonus: Nepal's face was completely removed; It was replaced with a silvery metal mask, attacked to the bone of his skull, with a crown-like top, and only has two slits for where his eyes normally would be. This device lets him see in inferred and ultraviolet, as well as nightvision. Nepal can also fire rays of metal-cutting lasers from the eye-slits in his mask.
Mod Drawback: Complete lack of color vision, normal sight is almost nonexistanct, merely capable of making out general shapes and distances. His neck, to suport the heavy equipment on his face, was installed with extra bars for support, so his range of motion in that area is severely limited.

The Corpus Noir contacted Jestina, and their doctors successfully treated Deneen, granting her incredibly powerful mechanical legs, in exchange for Jestina’s promise to act as an enforcer for them. She received an arm cannon Mod from them, with which she hunted down the motorcycle driver that ran into Deneen, and now is a loyal member of the Noir frequently called upon for dirtier jobs. She relies on the Noir for housing and food, since her Mod is easily recognizable.
Mod Bonus: Jestina’s right arm (she’s left-handed) has been replaced with a metal cannon that can fire projectiles. Scrap metal from the ground or specialized projectiles like grenades will both work.
Mod Drawback: The arm is virtually unusable now, and needs to be charged every night in order to function. Use of the arm in enclosed spaces can release noxious fumes. Using the arm causes significant recoil that throws Jestina off balance.
